Bhishma of past and today
The great story of Mahabharata tells us how human follies can leads to destruction. The legendary characters of this epic story have both heroes and villains. Both the categories consist of powerful and eminent personalities. Bhishma was such a character. Strong and effective. Its not wise to categorise him in one of the types mentioned above, because one cannot say whatever he did was good or bad. He was a warrior and always wanted to protect throne of 'Hastinapur'. He fought all his life for that. In a way he was right as he was loyal towards his kingdom. But to prove the point that he was honest to his king, he favoured those who were wrong and who knew his weaknesses, his so called oath. We all love our country. But that doesn't mean we become blind. We cannot ignore wrong. We see some of the people of the country are on destructive path, but never stopped them fiercely because my oath do not allow me. Its easy to ignore a situation but its necessary to face that situation. Pathankot attack in India was such an example. Despite provided every evidence about the terrorist's identity , the country to which they belong is in denial mode to accept them as their citizens. Bhishma of Mahabharata let Kaurvas to disobey him. He as a agar agar plate , allowed Kaurvas ,the bacterias ,to flourish. He as a mute spectator welcomed devastation of the kingdom for which he lived all the time. Terrorism is a disease caused by bacteria called terrorists. If a plate (country) do not allow their colonies to settle down , then these bacteria will die. But for that we must be true to ourselves before we make promises to our beloved God .
